The Michigan Wolverines welcomed the Army Black Knights in Week 2 with hopes it would be a great test to determine if Jim Harbaugh’s program could handle a unique offense early in the season.

Michigan failed its own test in a perfect summary for Jim Harbaugh’s tenure. While the defense hung around all game with Army’s triple-option attack, quarterback Shea Patterson and the offense delivered a miserable performance.

After Michigan’s offense turned the ball over on downs in a 14-14 game, Army got its first chance to finish off the upset with a 50-yard field goal in the final seconds. The Black Knights couldn’t take advantage of the opportunity and the missed kick sent it to overtime.

Army answered back with a touchdown to kick off overtime, but the Wolverines responded with a game-tying score. Following Michigan’s go-ahead field goal in the second overtime, its defense stepped up with one final turnover to seal the double-overtime win.

As Michigan’s defense celebrated the narrow victory, Twitter lit up with reactions to the program’s near disaster.
