At a time when Major League Baseball and its teams have drawn criticism due to their financial handling of the COVID-19 pandemic, some entities have stepped up.
That now includes the Minnesota Twins. According to ESPN’s Jeff Passan, the club will not release any of their minor league baseball players and will pay each one their stipend and benefits through August.
This is just some tremendous news right here. It comes on the same week that it was projected 1,000 minor leaguers would lose their jobs. It also comes with other billionaire owners pinching pennies with the MLB season still suspended due to the ongoing pandemic.
It’s no small thing. The $400 stipend is minimal. Keeping heath insurance is not. As it relates to the 2020 Minor League Baseball season, that’s going to be canceled altogether.
