Tua Tagovailoa’s agent calls comments about the Bengals a ‘joke’

The agent for Alabama product and likely top-10 pick in the 2020 NFL Draft, Tua Tagovailoa, made waves during appearances on radio row from Miami Thursday.

Leigh Steinberg seemed to blast the Cincinnati Bengals organization in a big way, indicating that he hopes they take LSU’s Joe Burrow No. 1 overall in the 2020 NFL Draft.

“You want to make sure that your client ends up with a good organization,” the agent said.

Steinberg attempted to clarify the statement on social media later Thursday, calling it a “joke.”

A veteran of the industry, we’re confident that Steinberg is being truthful here. There’s no reason for him to go after the team selecting No. 1 overall in the 2020 NFL Draft, months before the annual event kicks off.

Is this potential damage control after learning his comments went viral? Potentially. But we wouldn’t read too much into it.

What we do know is that Tagovailoa is recovering at a much more rapid clip than expected after undergoing hip surgery back in November. He’s still going to be a top-five pick with the Dolphins seen as a likely destination.
