As the Dallas Cowboys skid continues and further questions emerge surrounding Jason Garrett’s future, Hall of Famer and three-time Super Bowl champion Troy Aikman came to Garrett’s defense and took some shots at Jerry Jones.

Garrett, who served as Aikman’s backup in Dallas, finds himself on the hot seat with the Cowboys sitting at 6-6. While the team remains atop the NFC East, Garrett’s track record of his team not delivering in the playoffs, despite having great talent on both sides of the ball, puts his future in doubt.

Aikman spoke on Wednesday about Garrett’s tenure in Dallas and the difficulties that come with the job, along with how Jones’ style of running the organization can be a detriment to the team.

“There is a lot to this job,” Aikman said, via NBC 5 Sports. “There is a lot he has to overcome. It’s not run traditionally the way most organizations are and that is to the detriment of the Cowboys. You can’t look at three playoff wins over the last 25 years and surmise that all the problems over that time have to do with coaching. I think you have to look at the top and say how are we doing it from the top. I think businesses do that. I think anyone worth their salt evaluate it from the top down.”

Aikman also spoke on KTCL radio and didn’t shy away from comparing the different mindsets between the coach and front office. While Garrett focuses on each day, Jones keeps talking about the Super Bowl despite the team’s recent skid.

“We’ve got a head coach who we know for 10 years has been saying, ‘We’re focused on Tuesday. Today. That’s all we’re worried about is having the best practice today that we can possibly have. That’s been his messaging throughout,” Aikman said, via the Dallas Morning News. “And the owner’s talking about getting on a run to win the Super Bowl. And they’ve lost three of their last four.”

Aikman certainly isn’t afraid to make his feelings on his former team known. Perhaps the comments will put a little more pressure and scrutiny on Jones, rather than Garrett alone.
