Two jet dryer vehicles collided and spilled jet fuel all over Turn 1 of Daytona International Speedway on Monday morning during the track drying process in advanced of the rain delayed Daytona 500.
NASCAR officials confirmed that neither truck driver was injured in the incident.
The incident occurred at 11:30 a.m. as two track drying trucks entered the 31-degree banked corner, with the truck in the high lane losing traction and slipping down the banking and into a collision with the vehicle below.
The contact caused jet fuel to pour from both vehicles and roll down the racing surface and into the apron.
The incident comes 12 years after driver Juan Pablo Montoya spun off the banking and into a jet dryer, which caused the latter to catch fire. NASCAR and track officials successfully determined that the best way to clean the racing surface was laundry detergent.
NASCAR once again used laundry detergent to clean the racing surface and the track is now ready for the Daytona 500, which is scheduled to begin at 4:00 p.m. and will air on FOX. The NASCAR Xfinity Series season opener will run an hour after checkered flag for the Daytona 500.
