Toronto Maple Leafs acquire Ben Hutton, Antti Suomela in separate deals

The Toronto Maple Leafs acquired defenseman Ben Hutton from the Anaheim Ducks on Monday in exchange for a fifth-round pick in the 2022 NHL Draft.

The Maple Leafs also acquired Antti Suomela from the San Jose Sharks in exchange for fellow forward Alexander Barabanov.

The deals came one day after Toronto acquired Columbus Blue Jackets captain Nick Foligno and Calgary Flames goaltender David Rittich in separate trades.

Hutton, 27, recorded one goal and four assists in 34 games this season. The Ontario native has registered 91 points (16 goals, 75 assists) in 375 career games with the Vancouver Canucks, Los Angeles Kings and Ducks.

Suomela, 27, has spent this season shuffling between the Sharks and the San Jose Barracuda of the American Hockey League. He has 15 points (four goals, 11 assists) in 51 career NHL games with the Sharks.

Barabanov, 26, has one assist in 13 games this season with the Maple Leafs.
