The Texas A&M Aggies were dealt a major blow during a scrimmage on Monday. The top tight end recruit of the 2019 class, Baylor Cupp, exited practice with a lower-body injury. There were no updates regarding the severity of Cupp’s injury until Tuesday.
It’s not good. Cupp underwent surgery to repair a broken leg and will likely miss the season. Aggies head coach Jimbo Fisher noted the injury was to the lower part of Cupp’s leg, specifically mentioning the ankle and tibia.
Cupp was the No. 53 overall recruit of the 2019 class. He was expected to play a big role for Texas A&M this coming season. That’s only magnified by the departure of All-American tight end Jace Sternberger to the Green Bay Packers in April’s NFL Draft.
Cupp caught 30 passes for 943 yards and 12 touchdowns during his final two high school seasons in Brock, Texas. This enabled him to earn Under Armour All-American honors and be a four-star recruit to Texas A&M.
