The Texas Rangers got some unfortunate news with Spring Training getting going for the team.

Texas announced on Monday that top pitching prospect Brock Burke will undergo surgery to repair a partial tear of his labrum in his throwing shoulder on Friday and will miss the entire 2020 season.

Ranked as the Rangers’ No. 7 prospect by MLB.com, Burke likely wasn’t going to break camp with Texas this spring.

Even then, it’s a major set back for the 23-year-old lefty and former third-round pick. Burke made his debut with the Rangers last August, pitching to a 7.43 ERA and 1.54 WHIP in six starts.

The good news here is that these Rangers have depth in the rotation after adding veterans Corey Kluber, Kyle Gibson and Jordan Lyles to the mix during the winter.
