Hunter Sallis scored 29 points and his teammates came through with big late-game baskets as Wake Forest dumped No. 8 Duke 83-79 on Saturday afternoon in Winston-Salem, N.C.

Sallis shot 11-for-13 from the field, making 5 of 6 3-point attempts. Andrew Carr scored 16 of his 18 points in the second half, Kevin Miller posted 15 points and Cameron Hildreth added 12 points in front of the first sold-out crowd for a Wake Forest home game in seven years.

The Demon Deacons (18-9, 10-6 Atlantic Coast Conference) held on as Duke’s late possession, with a chance to tie or go ahead, was doomed by a turnover in the waning seconds. Sallis bagged two free throws to clinch the outcome with 1.8 seconds prior to a court storming by thrilled fans.

Duke (21-6, 12-4) had a five-game winning streak snapped. Kyle Filipowski’s 17 points and Jeremy Roach’s 16 paced the Blue Devils, who got 15 from Jared McCain and 14 from Tyrese Proctor. Filipowski sustained a sprained ankle in a collision with fans storming the court and needed assistance getting off the court.

No. 1 UConn 78, Villanova 54

Cam Spencer scored 16 of his 25 points in the second half as the Huskies pulled away to rout the Wildcats in Storrs, Conn.

UConn (25-3, 15-2 Big East) bounced back from Tuesday’s 85-66 loss at No. 15 Creighton that stopped their 14-game winning streak. The Huskies dominated the second half by outscoring Villanova after retiring Richard Hamilton’s jersey in a halftime ceremony.

Tristen Newton finished with 10 points, 10 assists and a career-high 16 rebounds, getting his fourth career triple-double, for UConn. Eric Dixon scored 20 points on 7-of-19 shooting for Villanova (15-12, 8-8), but the Wildcats shot just 33.3 percent.

No. 2 Houston 82, No. 11 Baylor 76 (OT)

Emanuel Sharp scored 18 points and J’Wan Roberts added 17 points, eight rebounds and three blocks as the Cougars outlasted the Bears in overtime in a Big 12 Conference clash in Waco, Texas.

Houston (24-3, 11-3) won its fifth straight and remains alone atop the conference standings but had its hands full with Baylor (19-8, 8-6). L.J. Cryer added 15 points for Houston while Jamal Shead produced 12 points and 10 assists.

Ja’Kobe Walter led the Bears with 23 points, with Dennis adding 21. Jalen Bridges had 17 points and 13 rebounds and Jayden Nunn contributed 11 points as Baylor lost its second straight game.

No. 4 Arizona 91, Washington 75

Caleb Love helped stake the No. 4 Wildcats to a big lead with 20 first-half points, and Oumar Ballo posted his seventh consecutive double-double in a victory over Washington in Tucson, Ariz.

Love finished with 28 points, seven rebounds and five assists as Arizona (21-6, 12-4 Pac-12) shook off Thursday night’s 77-74 home loss to No. 21 Washington. Ballo finished with 14 points and 14 rebounds. Pelle Larsson had 17 points, seven assists and five rebounds. Keshad Johnson contributed 16 points.

Washington (15-13, 7-10) shot only 38.2 percent (29 of 76) for the game. Koren Johnson led the way with 17 points, followed by Keion Brooks Jr. and Nate Calmese with 15 points each.

No. 5 Tennessee 86, Texas A&M 51

Jonas Aidoo dominated with an 18-point, 14-rebound double-double and the Volunteers rolled to an SEC victory over the Aggies in front of a sold-out crowd in Knoxville, Tenn.

It’s the 800th career win for head coach Rick Barnes, who joins Kentucky’s John Calipari and Dave Holmquist of Division III Biola as the only other active coaches with as many wins. Dalton Knecht helped make it possible with a game-high 24 points while Tobe Awaka added 12 as Tennessee (21-6, 11-3 SEC) won its fourth consecutive game, avenging an 85-69 loss to A&M two weeks ago and moving into a first-place tie with Alabama.

The Aggies (15-12, 6-8) dropped their fourth in a row despite double-digit efforts from Wade Taylor IV (11), Tyrece Radford (11) and Jace Carter (10).

No. 6 Iowa State 71, West Virginia 64

Tamin Lipsey registered 14 points and six assists to help the Cyclones slide past the Mountaineers in Big 12 play at Ames, Iowa.

Curtis Jones added 12 points for the Cyclones (21-6, 10-4 Big 12), who improved to 16-0 at home this season. The victory was Iowa State’s second in the past 10 meetings with the Mountaineers.

Kobe Johnson and Kerr Kriisa scored 12 points apiece for West Virginia (9-18, 4-10), which fell to 0-7 on the road this season. Quinn Slazinski had 11 points and Jesse Edwards recorded 10 points, eight rebounds and four blocked shots.

No. 9 Kansas 86, Texas 67

Hunter Dickinson had 20 points to lift the Jayhawks to a resounding victory over the visiting Longhorns.

The Jayhawks (21-6, 9-5 Big 12) once again had to play without their leading scorer Kevin McCullar, who missed his fourth game in the last seven with a balky knee. He played in the Jayhawks’ 67-57 victory at Oklahoma last Saturday, but he was out against the Longhorns. In his absence, Nicolas Timberlake tied his season high with 13 points.

Texas (17-10, 6-8) was led by Dillon Mitchell and Tyrese Hunter, who each scored 12 points. Ithiel Horton added 10 points.

No. 10 North Carolina 54, Virginia 44

Cormac Ryan scored 18 points, all coming on 6-of-11 3-point shooting, as the Tar Heels churned out a win over the Cavaliers in Charlottesville, Va.

The Tar Heels (21-6, 13-3 ACC) won in Charlottesville for the first time since 2012 despite posting their season low in points and shooting 16-of-50 (32 percent) from the field. Armando Bacot overcame early foul trouble to post 10 points and 13 rebounds and two blocks.

Jordan Minor’s 12 points and 10 rebounds led the Cavaliers (20-8, 11-6), who made 16-of-58 field goals (27.6 percent). Reece Beekman chipped in 10 points as the only other double-digit scorer for Virginia, which has lost three of four since winning eight straight games.

No. 12 Illinois 95, Iowa 85

Senior Coleman Hawkins scored a career-high 30 points as the Fighting Illini rebounded from a seven-point second-half deficit to earn a victory over Iowa Champaign, Ill., that marked Illinois’ 1,000th Big Ten win.

Terrence Shannon Jr. and Justin Harmon contributed 12 points apiece for the Illini (20-7, 11-5 Big Ten) while lightly used freshman guard Niccolo Moretti came off the bench in the second half to post a career-high 9 points in 17 minutes.

Sophomore guard Josh Dix posted 20 points to pace Iowa (16-12, 8-9), which sought its third straight Quad 1 win after knocking off Wisconsin and Michigan State. Tony Perkins posted 18 points while Ben Krikke notched 15 points and Payton Sandfort added 12.

No. 14 Auburn 97, Georgia 76

Chad Baker-Mazara scored 25 points on 8-for-12 shooting, and the Tigers pulled away to beat the Bulldogs in Athens, Ga.

Johni Broome posted 16 points, 13 rebounds and two blocks for Auburn (21-6, 10-4 SEC). Chaney Johnson also scored 16 points and Aden Holloway finished with 15.

Noah Thomasson scored 18 points to lead Georgia (15-12, 5-9). Silas Demary Jr. and Russel Tchewa contributed 16 points apiece. Auburn shot 62.1 percent overall and 14 of 26 from 3-point range. Georgia shot 43.6 percent from the field and 3 of 14 from deep.

No. 17 Kentucky 117, No. 13 Alabama 95

Justin Edwards scored a career-best 28 points on 10-of-10 shooting as the Wildcats whipped the Crimson Tide in Southeastern Conference play at Lexington, Ky.

Antonio Reeves scored 24 points and Zvonimir Ivisic added career bests of 18 points and four blocked shots for the Wildcats (19-8, 9-5 SEC). Rob Dillingham tallied 16 points and Adou Thiero added 12 as Kentucky shot 63.1 percent from the field, including 13 of 24 from 3-point range.

Rylan Griffen scored 21 points and Mark Sears added 20 for Alabama (19-8, 11-3). Grant Nelson and Aaron Estrada each had added 13 points and seven rebounds, Mouhamed Dioubate scored 12 points and Nick Pringle had 11 for the Crimson Tide, who shot 56.7 percent from the field and 6 of 17 from 3-point range.

No. 18 Saint Mary’s 88, San Diego 62

Mitchell Saxen recorded 20 points and seven rebounds and the Gaels stretched their winning streak to 15 games with an easy victory over the Toreros in Moraga, Calif.

Alex Ducas scored 18 points on six 3-pointers and matched his career best of 12 rebounds as Saint Mary’s (23-6, 14-0 West Coast Conference) clinched at least a tie for the WCC regular-season crown. The Gaels beat the Toreros for the 20th consecutive time.

Deuce Turner scored 20 points for San Diego (16-13, 6-8), which lost its second straight game. Jimmy Oladokun Jr. scored 13 points and Keyon Kensie added 10 for the Toreros.

No. 19 San Diego State 73, Fresno State 41

Jaedon LeDee had 22 points, 11 rebounds and three blocks and the Aztecs ran away from the host Bulldogs in their Mountain West Conference matchup.
Jay Pal scored 14 points and Reese Waters added 12 off the bench for San Diego State (21-7, 10-5 MWC), which is a half-game behind first-place Utah State and Boise State.

Isaiah Hill scored 12 points and Xavier DuSell finished with 10 to lead Fresno State (11-16, 4-10), which shot 24.6 percent from the floor while dropping its third straight game.

No. 20 South Carolina 72, Ole Miss 59

B.J. Mack scored 17 points to lead a balanced scoring effort and the Gamecocks bounced back from their only consecutive losses of the season to defeat the Rebels in Oxford, Miss.

Zachary Davis contributed 14 points and nine rebounds, Collin Murray-Bowles added 12 points and Jacobi Wright had 10 for the Gamecocks (22-5, 10-4 SEC).

Moussa Cisse scored 13 points to lead four players in double figures for the Rebels (19-8, 6-8), who lost for the fifth time in their last six games. Jaemyn Brakefield had 12 points and seven rebounds, Allen Flanigan had 11 points and Matthew Murrell 10.

Arizona State 73, No. 21 Washington State 61

The Sun Devils rebounded from a pair of emotional defeats to upset the Cougars in Tempe, Ariz., knocking them out of first place in the Pac-12 Conference.

Jose Perez scored 16 points and Frankie Collins added 14 for the Sun Devils (14-14 overall, 8-9 Pac-12). They had lost 105-60 at rival Arizona last weekend and then dropped an 82-80 overtime decision against Washington on Thursday after rallying from a 25-point, second-half deficit.

Isaac Jones led the Cougars (21-7, 12-5) with 16 points and 11 rebounds, and Myles Rice scored 13. The Cougars had an eight-game winning streak snapped and fell one-half game behind leader Arizona (21-6, 12-4) in the conference race.

UNLV 66, No. 22 Colorado State 60

Dedan Thomas Jr. had 23 points and Luis Rodriguez made all six of his free-throw attempts in the final 1:03 to lead the Rebels past the Rams in Las Vegas.

Thomas made all 12 of his free-throw attempts in the game. Rodriguez, who finished with 14 points, was 8 of 8 at the foul line. UNLV (16-10, 9-5 Mountain West) has won seven of its last eight games.

Colorado State (20-8, 8-7) lost to New Mexico and UNLV on the road this week after being ranked for the first time in three weeks. Isaiah Stevens led the Rams with 18 points, and Joel Scott added 13. Saturday’s game had 10 lead changes and nine ties.

UCF 75, No. 23 Texas Tech 61

Darius Johnson scored 16 points and the Knights snapped a four-game losing streak with a victory over the Red Raiders in Orlando, Fla.

Jaylin Sellers added 15 points as the Knights (14-12, 5-9 Big 12) won over a ranked opponent for just the third time this season.

The Red Raiders (19-8, 8-6) fell to 2-6 in true road games despite a double-double of 19 points and 11 rebounds from Darrion Williams and 18 points from Kerwin Walton.

No. 24 Florida 77, Vanderbilt 64

Will Richard led the way with 21 points and Walter Clayton Jr. came up just short of his fifth consecutive game with at least 20 points as the Gators cruised to a Southeastern Conference victory over the Commodores in Gainesville, Fla.

Clayton settled for 19 points before leaving the game with 1:43 left and the Gators (19-8, 9-5 SEC) up 76-57. Tyrese Samuel also was in double figures with 15 points.

Ven-Allen Lubin led the Commodores (7-20, 2-12 SEC) with 15 points while Evan Taylor and Ezra Manjon scored 10 each.

Kansas State 84, No. 25 BYU 74

Arthur Kaluma had a career-high 28 points to lead a quintet of Wildcats in double figures in their defeat of the Cougars in Manhattan, Kan.

Tylor Perry followed with 16 points for Kansas State (16-11, 6-8 Big 12), which had lost seven of its last eight games. Kaluma also had 10 rebounds and was 8 of 11 from the field and 10 of 12 from the line as the Wildcats shot 56.3 percent from the field.

BYU (19-8, 7-7) got 15 points from Jaxson Robinson. He was joined in double figures by Noah Waterman and Spencer Johnson with 12 each. The Cougars shot 40.8 percent from the field.
