The Dallas Cowboys have been weighing their options regarding Tony Romo and whether or not to place him on injured reserve.
After debating the merits of both moves, owner Jerry Jones says Romo will remain on the team’s 53-man roster while he recovers from the broken bone in his back.
Official. Romo stays on the 53. https://t.co/icoH3QlFDF

Jerry also adds to @1053thefan that there isn't a more valuable option that makes it worth it to take Romo off the active roster.

Jones also said on 105.3 The Fan that he will “be liberal” with Romo’s recovery, “given how much he means to the Cowboys,” per David Helman of the team’s website.
While Romo recovers, rookie Dak Prescott is set to start behind center. He was spectacular during the preseason, showing off physical skills that rival some of the best in the league while displaying veteran-like poise and leadership.
If Prescott struggles to replicate his preseason performances or gets injured, then veteran Mark Sanchez will be there to take over until Romo returns. The Cowboys signed Sanchez very shortly after he was released by the Denver Broncos this past week.
Romo’s timetable for recovery has been pegged at anywhere from a few weeks to 10 weeks (more on that here).
It’s going to be interesting to see how Dallas performs without him. If the offense struggles, it’s going to be interesting to see if Jones continues to “be liberal” with the veteran’s timetable for recovery.
Last year, Romo returned too soon after breaking his clavicle. He then suffered another broken clavicle. Making that same mistake again would be a lamentable action.
