Tony Romo to compete in PGA tour tournament in March

Tony Romo

Now that he’s retired from playing professional football former Dallas Cowboys quarterback Tony Romo can enjoy the finer things in life. Apparently, that now includes taking part in an official PGA Tour event in the Dominican Republic late next month.

Official word came down Wednesday that Romo will compete in his first ever PGA-sanctioned event. And he couldn’t be happier.

“As a professional athlete, the love and thrill of competition never entirely leaves you,” Romo said, via the Star-Telegram. “Outside of my family and football, golf is one of my greatest passions. So, playing and competing in a PGA Tour event is a dream come true. I am grateful to the Corales Puntacana Resort & Club Championship for giving me an incredible opportunity to test my skills against some of the best on Tour.”

Romo has attempted three different times to qualify for the U.S. Open, only to come up short each time. He’s going to compete in the Corales Puntacana Resort & Club Championship from March 22-25 with a sponsor exemption. This is the first year that the tournament is on the PGA schedule. Prior to this year, it was a Web.com Tour event.

Since retiring from the NFL prior to last season, Romo has been in the news big time. He’s considered an up-and-coming analyst after absolutely killing it in that role with CBS Sports as a rookie in 2017.
