New York Giants quarterback Tommy DeVito was the toast of the Big Apple and New Jersey after leading his team to three consecutive victories heading into Week 15.

It all came crashing down Sunday in a 24-6 loss to the New Orleans Saints that saw DeVito complete 20-of-34 passes for a mere 177 yards.

The undrafted free agent from Jersey had been making multiple promo appearances in the region ahead of Sunday’s game. That included hundreds of Giants fans flocking to Primo Hoagies in Wayne, NJ, to see him.

DeVito had also made appearances at Coniglio’s Pizzeria and Bakery in Morristown up until recently. That will no longer be the case. After last week’s huge win over the Green Bay Packers, DeVito upped his charge to appear from $10,000 to $20,000.

The local family business said they simply could not afford to pay that sum for DeVito to appear. It is highly unfortunate.

DeVito, 25, is playing under a two-year, $1.67 million contract the Illinois product signed as an undrafted free agent with the Giants back in May. His base salary for the 2023 season is a mere $750,000.

It’s hard to blame DeVito for attempting to cash in on this newly-minted fame given how much of an unknown he was leading up to the 2023 NFL Draft.
