Following the Texas Longhorns’ upset victory over the No. 7-ranked Oklahoma Sooners in the Red River Showdown, many are suggesting the program is back as a national program. Don’t count Texas’ head coach Tom Herman among them.

After Saturday’s game, Herman delivered a smart answer when asked if he thought the program was back following its huge win.

“I’ve got to tread lightly on this one, Dennis. It’s irrelevant to us in the best way to put it,” Herman said, via Sports Illustrated. “We’re not as concerned with where people think Texas is. We’re concerned about where we…the people in that locker room, are the the people whose opinions matter the most to us.”

Herman further expanded on the program’s standing, but recognized the bigger picture and how much the program has grown in his tenure and this season.

After an ugly loss to Maryland at the start of the season, Texas has now won five consecutive games and knocked off three ranked teams in the process.

Herman is right to exercise caution with his statements, this team still has plenty to prove. However, it is certainly a lot better than where it was when he first walked through the door and it shouldn’t be long before Texas is ranked as a top-10 team in the country.
