Titans GM not ruling out trading up, or taking a quarterback

Marcus Mariota

The Tennessee Titans currently possess the No. 19 overall pick in the 2019 NFL Draft, but general manager Jon Robinson made it clear they might not stand pat.

“I’d say all bets are off as far as what I am going to do, what we’re going to do,” Robinson said, per the team’s website. “At the end of the day we’re going to do what’s best for our football team and whether that is move up, move back, or stick and pick we’ll just kind of see how the cards unfold for us.”

He also suggested the team won’t rule out upgrading at any position, which includes quarterback.

“I would say there’s not any positions that we’ve really struck off our draft board as, ‘We’re not going to address that position.’ I think we’re going to see how it unfolds on those nights and when we have a chance to help our football team, regardless of position, we’re going to go after it.”

The Titans recently made a trade with Miami to acquire quarterback Ryan Tannehill, who’ll back up Marcus Mariota barring a bold move to land another quarterback in the first round this year.

However, it’s worth noting that neither Tannehill nor Mariota look like real franchise passers at this point. Both are injury prone (especially Mariota), and both have struggled to live up to their first-round billing.

Tennessee will continue to flounder on offense if it doesn’t improve this situation. Though, next year’s draft might be better equipped if landing a rookie passer is the end goal.
