Hours before he was set to play in a play-in game against the Los Angeles Clippers, Minnesota Timberwolves guard Patrick Beverley was fined $25,000 by the NBA on Tuesday for improper conduct toward a referee.

The incident occurred during Sunday’s regular-season finale against the Chicago Bulls when Beverley received a technical foul and was ejected by referee David Guthrie.

After being ejected, Beverley had a bemused look on his face as he eyed Guthrie and reportedly said “you’re trash” before leaving the court.

Beverley has provided some toughness and defensive intensity for Minnesota, which can reach the playoffs for the first time in four years with a home win over the Clippers on Tuesday night. He was a member of the Clippers the previous four seasons.
