Timberwolves ‘confident’ they will land All-Star D’Angelo Russell

Brooklyn Nets restricted free agent D’Angelo Russell appears headed to another NBA city.

The Nets will either rescind their qualifying offer or work out a sign-and-trade for Russell once they get a commitment from Kyrie Irving Sunday evening.

If that does indeed happen, it looks like Russell could be heading to the Minnesota Timberwolves.

As Marc Stein of The New York Times notes, Minnesota would have to make separate moves in order for this to come to fruition. The team is capped out.

Though, the Wolves are also confident that they can find a trade partner for Andrew Wiggins and his massive contract. That would set up the ability to land Russell on a near-max contract. Starting point guard Jeff Teague would also be on the block.

The idea here would be to team Russell up with star big man Karl-Anthony Towns and rookie top-six pick Jarrett Culver moving forward. Not a bad trio in Minnesota.
