Tigers-Guardians rained out, will play July 4 doubleheader

The Detroit Tigers’ home game against the Cleveland Guardians Friday night was postponed due to inclement weather in the area.

The American League Central rivals will meet up for a split doubleheader on Independence Day. After their originally scheduled game at 1:10 p.m. ET, they will make up Friday’s game starting at 6:40 p.m.

Cleveland’s Shane Bieber (1-3, 3.55 ERA) was set to oppose Detroit rookie Alex Faedo (1-1, 3.00 ERA) on Friday. Updated pitching plans for Saturday’s and Sunday’s games were not yet known.

The Tigers won the first game of what was supposed to be a four-game set on Thursday, 4-3, on a walk-off base hit by Miguel Cabrera.

It’s already the second time the two teams had a game rained out this season. Their meeting in Cleveland last Saturday was postponed more than three hours before first pitch and rescheduled for July 14.

The Colorado Rockies and host Washington Nationals also saw their originally scheduled game Friday postponed by weather.
