The Oklahoma City Thunder made more news in free agency on Wednesday, reportedly signing veteran wing Andre Roberson to a three-year, $30 million contract.
Roberson, 25, was a restricted free agent and had received a $4.6 million qualifying offer from Oklahoma City.
A major liability on the offensive end of the court, Roberson’s value is on defense. He earned NBA All Defensive Second Team honors this past season for the Thunder. Roberson added 6.6 points and 5.1 rebounds per game. Though, he shot at just a 25 percent mark from three-point range and an absurdly low 42 percent from the charity stripe.
A lot of you will remember Roberson for his performance against the Houston Rockets in last year’s playoffs. The former Colorado star shot a mind-blowing 3-of-21 from the free-throw line in that series. It led to some issues between the Rockets and Thunder in a series Houston ended up coming out on top.
Though, it’s clear the $10 million average annual salary is more about what Roberson brings to the table on defense. He should work well with new acquisition Paul George.
