Just days after the New England Patriots filed tampering charging against the Houston Texans for their pursuit of executive Nick Caserio, the Texans are now backing off New England’s top executive and continuing their search for a new general manager.
Houston’s CEO released a statement announcing the organization is backing off Caserio after learning of contractual obligations in his deal with the Patriots
According to John McClain of the Houston Chronicle, the Patriots are dropping their tampering charges against the Texans as a result of them backing off Caserio.
While there had previously been speculation that Houston and New England would work out draft-pick compensation in exchange for Caserio becoming Houston’s general manager, both sides ultimately took the simpler approach.
Caserio will stay in place as the top executive in New England and working closely with Bill Belichick.
Meanwhile, Houston’s search for a replacement for the recently fired Brian Gaine. The Texans already interviewed former Cleveland Browns general manager Ray Farmer and are expected to meet with several other candidates in the near future.
