The Houston Texans announced Monday that they are donating $1 million to the United Way of Greater Houston Flood Relief Fund. The NFL foundation is matching that donation.

Head coach Bill O’Brien also announced that the team is dedicating the season “to the people of Houston” who have been devastated by catastrophic flooding due to Hurricane Harvey.

Texans superstar J.J. Watt helped raise over $500,000 on Sunday after he sent out a heartfelt video message to his social media followers, urging people to give.

Much like we saw with the New Orleans Saints in the wake of Hurricane Katrina back in 2005, the Texans are hoping to be an inspirational force for their community.

The state of Texas is in a state of crisis as Harvey continues to dump torrential rain, and the city of Houston has been particularly hit hard.

The images that have hit news sites and social media show a level of flooding that seems almost biblical in proportion.

The community will be recovering from this natural disaster for years.

Our thoughts and prayers go out to everyone who’s still stranded, to everyone who is displaced and especially to the families and friends of people who were tragically taken during the storm. We’d also like to extend our heartfelt thanks to all the people who have thrown themselves into rescue efforts and saved countless lives.
