Terrell Owens calls Roger Goodell a liar over Colin Kaepernick comments

NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell gave his annual State of the League address in Atlanta on Wednesday in the lead up to Super Bowl LIII.

Having already seen one group call for his firing prior to the press conference, Goodell is now under fire for his comments about the status of unemployed former Super Bowl quarterback Colin Kaepernick.

Out of the league since 2016 after starting the entire National Anthem protest, Kaepernick is currently suing the league — claiming that NFL teams have colluded to keep him out of the league.

In talking about said situation, Goodell had this to say.

I’ve said it many times privately, publicly that our clubs are the ones that make decisions on players that they want to have on their roster,” Goodell told the media. “I think if a team decides that Colin Kaepernick or any other player can help their team win, that’s what they’ll do,” he added. “They want to win, and they make those decisions individually in the best interest of their club.”

Given that lesser quarterbacks such as Mark Sanchez, Josh Johnson, Blaine Gabbert and Tom Savage are employed, this seems to be complete hogwash. Goodell is certainly toeing the company line with this comment. It makes sense from his perspective in that the NFL needs to keep its message clear with an ongoing lawsuit.

Even then, it doesn’t take a genius to read between the lines here. That’s where Pro Football Hall of Famer Terrell Owens comes into play. He took to social media to call Goodell a liar over the commissioner’s comments.

Those are some strong words right there. And in reality, Owens doesn’t seem to be wrong. NFL teams are making the conscious decision to avoid Kaepernick. It has absolutely nothing to do with football. To believe otherwise would be akin to sheep following their herder.
