Terrell Owens announces he’ll be giving HOF speech at Tennessee Chattanooga

While the rest of his peers follow in the footsteps of the legends before them by being inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame in Canton, Ohio, Terrell Owens will be somewhere else.

The soon-to-be Hall of Famer announced when and where he’ll be celebrating his own induction in a Twitter post Tuesday morning.

Owens will be giving his Hall of Fame speech at the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga on Saturday, August 4, which is the same day that his peers will be enshrined at Canton.

It’s a fitting venue for the former small-school college star, who called this school home before being selected in the third round of the 1996 NFL Draft by the San Francisco 49ers.

Owens has been doing things his own way since the dawn of his NFL career. It’s hardly surprising that he’s stuck to his guns here about staying away from Canton, despite pleas from some pretty high-profile NFL people.

During his NFL career, Owens (in addition to his many emotional moments) was a star on the field, having caught 1,078 passes for 15,934 yards and 153 touchdowns.
