He finally has a team. After months on the free-agent market, former No. 1 overall pick and three-time Pro Bowler Jadeveon Clowney has latched on with a team.

According to ESPN’s Dianna Russini, Clowney is expected to sign with the Tennessee Titans.

Coming off a surprise appearance in the AFC Championship Game, this is absolutely huge news for the upstart Titans. It also must be noted that Titans head coach Mike Vrabel worked as an assistant with the Houston Texans during Clowney’s first three seasons in the NFL.

Prior to an injury-plagued only season with the Seattle Seahawks, Clowney was among the most-productive pass rushers in the NFL. From 2016-18 with the Texans, he recorded a combined 59 quarterback hits, 53 tackles for loss and 24.5 sacks. The signing gives Tennessee’s defense another elite figure.

Titans defense is going to be elite in 2020

Young edge rusher Harold Landry recorded 14 quarterback hits and nine sacks during a breakout sophomore campaign in 2019.

He’s slated to start at left outside linebacker opposite free-agent signing Vic Beasley. The latter was just activated by Tennessee after missing the early portion of training camp. Beasley, 28, led the NFL in sacks with 15.5 as a member of the Atlanta Falcons back in 2016. After a couple down seasons, he returned to form in 2019 by recording eight sacks in a part-time role.

Fellow youngsters Jeffery Simmons and Rashaan Evans round out a talented front seven in Nashville. Meanwhile, cornerback Malcolm Butler and All-Pro safety Kevin Byard headline what promises to be a strong secondary for a Titans defense that yielded the 12th-fewest points in the NFL last season.

Titans’ offense is going to rock again in 2020

By virtue of retaining reigning NFL Comeback Player of the Year Ryan Tannehill at quarterback and last season’s leading rusher Derrick Henry, the Titans have everything in place to succeed on offense this coming season.

Tennessee also has an elite young receiver in that of A.J. Brown set to take that next step as a sophomore after he recorded 52 receptions for 1,051 yards as a rookie.

It now looks like these Titans are going to be a major threat to the defending champion Kansas City Chiefs. After adding Clowney to the mix, that’s magnified even further.
