Tel Aviv Watergen Open called off

The Tel Aviv Watergen Open scheduled for next month has been canceled because of security concerns amid conflict in the region.

The ATP on Saturday said the decision was made after close consultation with security experts and with the safety of players, staff and fans in mind.

“The violence and acts of terror witnessed in Israel are beyond comprehension,” ATP chairman Andrea Gaudenzi said. “We strongly condemn any form of terrorism and mourn the loss of innocent lives across this conflict. We hope and pray for peace in the region.”

At Tel Aviv last year, Novak Djokovic of Serbia defeated Marin Cilic of Croatia in straight sets to win the indoor hard-court tournament title.
