Duke Blue Devils freshman Zion Williamson just wrapped up what was one of the best one-year runs in college basketball history.
Unfortunately for Zion and his team, said season came to a premature conclusion when Duke dropped a close affair to Michigan State in the Elite 8 this past weekend.
The likely No. 1 overall selection in the 2019 NBA Draft, the next chapter in Williamson’s career could be on Team USA for the 2019 World Cup in China.
According to Marc Stein of The NY Times, Team USA intends to gauge Williamson’s interest in playing overseas.
Stein also noted that no conversations have taken place between between the two sides. That should happen the closer we get to the 2019 NBA Draft with Williamson himself still not represented by an agency.
There is precedent in this regard. Back in 2012, then Kentucky star Anthony Davis took part in the Olympics before he even played a single NBA game.
A generational talent, it will be interesting to see if Williamson decides to take part in the World Cup.
