Suspension is the ‘most likely scenario’ for Michigan’s Jim Harbaugh amid sign-stealing controversy

Big Ten coaches would like to see Jim Harbaugh and the Michigan Wolverines punished for allegedly stealing signals and signs of opponents. Connor Stalions, the Michigan staffer accused of being in charge of the operation, has since announced his resignation and the NCAA’s investigation into Michigan is underway. Still, there have been no imminent signs of discipline just yet.

Meanwhile, ESPN’s Pete Thamel indicated we could gain clarity on the situation in the next few days, which could even involve a suspension for Coach Harbaugh.

As Thamel stated, the “most likely scenario” is a suspension for Harbaugh, and we should learn more in the next few days just how long that possible suspension will last.

Coach Harbaugh already missed the first three games of the season due to a self-imposed suspension by Michigan relating to recruiting violations. Yet, the Wolverines didn’t lose a game without Harbaugh and remain undefeated at 8-0 heading into Saturday’s matchup against Purdue.

Harbaugh won’t face any discipline before their matchup against the Boilermakers, but based on Thamel’s report, it’s possible he may not join his team on Nov. 11 against Penn State. Michigan also has Maryland and Ohio State left to close out their season.

While the coach may face discipline soon, Michigan’s administrators are still “proceeding with Harbaugh’s contract” offer. Previously, this extension was set to make Harbaugh Big Ten’s highest-paid coach. We’ll see if the same offer is still on the table.
