Now that the Phoenix Suns added big man Deandre Ayton with the first pick in this year’s NBA Draft, the team now has a duo to feature moving forward. Of course, that includes 21-year-old shooting guard Devin Booker.
It now looks like the two will be suiting up together in the desert for a while. According to Adrian Wojnarowski of ESPN, the Suns and Booker are closing in on a five-year max contract that will pay the former No. 13 overall pick $158 million.
This really shouldn’t be considered too much of a surprise. No player has ever turned down a max contract while still under his rookie deal. Booker will be no different.
Dealing with injuries throughout the 2017-18 campaign, Booker averaged 24.9 points, 4.5 rebounds and 4.7 assists in 54 games while shooting at a 38 percent mark from distance. He’s considered one of the best young players in the game and will now look to help the Suns overcome irrelevance moving forward.
