Suns could be angling for Euro star by interviewing Igor Kokoskov

Currently serving as a Utah Jazz assistant coach, Igor Kokoskov could soon find his way to the desert as the Phoenix Suns’ head coach.

Phoenix will reportedly interview Kokoskov for its vacant head coaching job.

Why is this so significant? Kokoskov led Slovenia to its first ever EuroBasket championship back 2017 and is viewed as a tremendous coaching mind. He’s served as a Jazz assistant since 2015.

Prior to that, Kokoskov was an assistant for the Orlando Magic, Cleveland Cavaliers, Phoenix Suns, Detroit Pistons and Los Angeles Clippers. In this, it would be a reunion of sorts for the Yugoslavian native.

It’s also interesting to note that Kokoskov coached likely lottery pick and European sensation Luka Doncic with the Slovenian national team. Doncic, a star with Real Madrid, could very well be the first pick in the coming 2018 NBA Draft. After finishing the regular season with the NBA’s worst record, Phoenix has the best odd to earn that top pick.
