Phoenix guard Bradley Beal injured his right ankle during the first quarter of the Suns’ Friday game against the New York Knicks and was ruled out for the remainder of the contest.

The setback comes in the second game that the Phoenix “Big Three” of Devin Booker, Kevin Durant and Beal were playing in the same contest.

Beal was injured when he made a 3-pointer with 7:28 left in the first quarter and his right ankle landed on the heel of Knicks guard Donte DiVincenzo. A foul was called on DiVincenzo and it was reviewed and subsequently upgraded to a flagrant foul 1.

Beal stayed in to make the free throw and give Phoenix a 15-12 lead. He then was subbed out and went to the locker room for evaluation and was ruled out a short time later. Beal scored six points in five minutes.

The Friday contest was just the sixth of the season for Beal. He has been plagued with back issues, a prime reason why the star trio didn’t play in the same game until Phoenix’s 116-112 home loss to the Brooklyn Nets on Wednesday.

Booker (34), Durant (27) and Beal (14) combined for 75 points in the defeat against the Nets.

Beal was acquired from the Washington Wizards in the offseason. The Suns host the Wizards on Sunday.
