The All Women’s Sports Network (AWSN) will air live basketball, soccer, volleyball, and more on MyFree DIRECTV throughout November, part of a streaming slate that totals more than 2,500 hours of women’s sports annually for U.S. viewers.

MyFree DIRECTV launched last November as a curated free, ad-supported service available online, on mobile, and on select smart TVs, with more channels added through 2025.

I’ve watched Free Ad-Supported Streaming TV (FAST) evolve from novelty to necessity, and this tie-up feels overdue. Free sports, no login, and a big slate to watch. Data from Nielsen shows interest in women’s sports reached roughly half the global population by 2024, signaling why distribution windows like this matter.

Take November 1 for example. The day opens at 8 a.m. ET with Kristianstads DFF vs Djurgården in Sweden’s OBOS Damallsvenskan, then Athletes Unlimited volleyball at 7:30 p.m. ET, and WNBL’s Bendigo Spirit later that night. The schedule continues through November 29 with WNBL and Saudi Women’s Premier League fixtures sprinkled in.

In direct-communication, executives have pointed to momentum. DIRECTV’s Chris Lui said the lineup showcases a growing community of fans, while AWSN CEO George Chung framed the relationship as a step that expands reach to millions of homes and makes live women’s sports easier to find.

AWSN builds reach on free TV

One report mentioned that MyFree DIRECTV is part of a broader rush by legacy TV brands into FAST, with DirecTV’s full “MyFree” rollout highlighted late last year. Forbes reported the offering widened the company’s footprint with a curated channel mix.

The schedule on MyFree DIRECTV includes Athletes Unlimited volleyball, Australia’s WNBL, and Sweden’s OBOS Damallsvenskan, plus select Saudi Women’s Premier League matches, giving viewers a steady run of live games across time zones. I like the clarity here. It’s easy to dip in at breakfast or late at night.

The quiet power behind the scenes

Co-founded by Whoopi Goldberg and Jungo TV, AWSN was built to spotlight women athletes from grassroots to elite competitions. As The Hollywood Reporter put it, the network is positioning itself as a global destination for women’s sports programming. AWSN’s own site notes partnerships ranging from UEFA to FIBA and the WNBL, reinforcing that breadth.

From a business owner’s seat, free distribution widens the funnel, then rights deals, sponsorships, and merchandising have a better shot at compounding.

What makes this different?

The bulk of AWSN’s coverage focuses on WNBL (Women’s National Basketball League) teams like the Sydney Flames and Townsville Fire. This gives basketball fans in the U.S. fresh and free access into Australia’s premiere women’s league

The relevance here is that according to Sports Business Journal, WNBA games on ABC/ESPN averaged about 1.3 million viewers in 2025. This continues a two-year run of record audiences, even with star injuries cutting into potential viewerships. That’s a strong signal for advertisers chasing reach. Meanwhile, Variety noted DIRECTV’s push into free streaming back in 2024, a move designed to catch cord-cutters on the fence.

AWSN’s coverage also includes a number of European soccer games and Athletes Unlimited’s U.S.-based competitions. If you look beyond the WNBA, data shows positive gains too. Nielsen’s 2025 report cites rising global interest in women’s sports, and Reuters covered projections that women’s soccer could climb into the world’s top five by 2030, with an 800-million-plus fan base in sight.

How to access AWSN

One more practical note. DIRECTV’s own materials say MyFree DIRECTV is accessible nationwide across web and devices, which keeps the barrier low for an audience that wants simple starts and reliable streams.

Bottom line, this isn’t a one-off stunt. It’s a month-long sampler that could convert casual viewers into steady fans, with matches running from November 1 through November 29 and coverage spanning leagues that rarely share the same stage in one place.
