Steve Young slams Cam Newton haters

Going back to his college days, Cam Newton has been no stranger to controversy throughout his football career. The Carolina Panthers’ star quarterback can count Hall of Fame quarterback Steve Young as one of his backers. Young not only defended Newton, but had some strong words for those who take issue with him.

Bam. The reality is that this point could not be more spot on. Certainly, everyone is entitled to their own opinions, but it’s hard to see what the real issue is with Newton. He plays the game like he’s having the time of his life, which are the same qualities that have made past icons, namely Brett Favre, truly beloved players.

While Newton’s “dabbing” has become his most talked about celebration, he’s also the quarterback to hands the ball to young Panthers fans after every Carolina touchdown.

On top of all of that, Newton is a fantastic player. In a loaded field of competition, Newton is clearly the most deserving choice for the league’s most valuable player.

Cheering against Newton is one thing, especially if you’re a fan of the Denver Broncos, or a team that calls itself a rival of the Panthers. But Young’s assessment is spot on. In addition to having talent that sometimes borders on superhuman, Newton has shown himself to actually be a fine role model for the kids that are watching.

There are plenty of Cam Newton detractors and likely always will be, but Steve Young accurately spoke for a big group of people who call themselves fans.
