Steve Wilks: Trading Patrick Peterson ‘out of the question’

On Monday ESPN’s Adam Schefter reported that Arizona Cardinals cornerback Patrick Peterson wanted the team to trade him ahead of the Oct. 30 deadline.

Head coach Steve Wilks met with media shortly after that and made it clear that’s not happening.

Neither of these reactions are surprising.

That Peterson wants out of Arizona — an apparent sinking ship at the moment — is understandable. He’s an All-Pro cornerback who wants to compete at the highest level, and the Cardinals are arguably the worst team the NFL has to offer.

That Wilks and the Cardinals are adamantly against trading their star is understandable, too. If this team is going to pull itself out of the hole it is currently in, then it will need stars like Peterson to do it.

For what it’s worth, the Cardinals do have Peterson under contract for two more seasons. But there isn’t much more guarantees left on the deal, and the cornerback could certainly cause some drama if he wants to because of that.
