The Baltimore Ravens lost yet another game, bringing their overall record to 1-6, which buries the team in the AFC north. This time around it was the Arizona Cardinals handing them a bitter pill with a 26-18 loss on Monday Night Football.
Over the course of last night’s game the Ravens experienced headset difficulties, formation issues and a questionable Chris Johnson 62-yard scamper in which it appeared as if the running back had his progress stopped. Though the play never drew a whistle and, despite John Harbaugh’s protests, the Cardinals scored a field goal a couple of plays later.
When asked what his opinion of Monday’s loss, wide receiver Steve Smith fairly evaluated the game, via NFL.com.
“Two stars. Two stars. That’s what I’m putting on my Yelp.”
Sinking this low in their division is quite unusual for the Ravens, who have never started out a season so unsuccessfully. Had Joe Flacco not thrown a last second-interception into the hands of Tony Jefferson on a pass intended for tight end Crockett Gilmore, the Ravens could have had the opportunity to tie the game with a touchdown and two-point conversion.
Just like so many times before this season, Baltimore had a chance down the stretch but couldn’t push the right buttons.
If this year is indeed Smith’s last year before he retires, then he is certainly playing with a team that has minimal hope of advancing into the postseason.
Perhaps it’s not too late to revisit that trade conversation he shot down earlier last week. The perfect spot for Smith would be the Carolina Panthers squad that remains undefeated after six games, and what better way to go out than by making a run for the Lombardi Trophy with the team that drafted you.
