Report: Steve Sarkisian to join Alabama as offensive assistant

In the middle of the USC Alabama game Saturday night, a report broke that seemed too crazy to be true. Steve Sarkisian, former head coach for the Trojans, is set to join the Crimson Tide as a special offensive assistant, per Clay Travis of Outkick the Coverage.

Sarkisian left USC’s program after it was discovered he was deeply depressed and dealing with alcohol addiction.

He had previously said he was joining Fox’s college football coverage as an analyst but mentioned he wanted to get back into coaching during an interview with TMZ.

“I love coaching. I love being around the game of football,” he said. “FOX gave me an opportunity to be around it and we’ll see where it goes from there. You never know.”

Apparently it went from there to Alabama.

He’ll join the ever growing number of high-profile assistants on Nick Saban’s staff and could make a significant impact on the offensive philosophy of the Crimson Tide. And if he can remain in good standing, this could be Sarkisian’s ticket back to another head coaching gig in the future.
