As the Dallas Cowboys prepare for a critical offseason with many of their top players bound for free agency, the inevitability of losing one of their stars seems to be sinking in. While the team remains focused on retaining Dak Prescott and Amari Cooper, it now looks like All-Pro cornerback Byron Jones could be headed out the door.

If fans weren’t concerned enough when Cowboys VP Stephen Jones said he hasn’t negotiated a contract with Dak Prescott since September, Jones also shared that the team is seemingly prepared for Byron Jones to leave in free agency.

Jones is set to become one of the best free-agent talents on the open market when free agency begins. While Stephen Jones offered plenty of kind words about his abilities, it’s clear he’s also talking in the past tense about the young cornerback’s contributions to the team.

A second-team All-Pro in 2018, the 27-year-old has become one of the league’s top shutdown corners. He’s going to become one of the NFL’s highest-paid defensive backs and the Cowboys are seemingly ready for that.

Losing their top cornerback would be a massive blow for this defense, but the Cowboys have to focus on Prescott and Cooper. While both of its stars on offense seem likely to return next season, Jones is likely headed out the door.
