Two-time major champion Stacy Lewis will captain the 2024 U.S. Solheim Cup team, giving her the honor in back-to-back years.

She already is preparing for the 2023 Solheim Cup, to be contested Sept. 22-24 at Finca Cortesin in Spain. But with the biennial event moving to even years in 2024, Lewis will take on the responsibility again at Robert Trent Jones Golf Club in Gainesville, Va., on Sept. 10-15, 2024.

“This is such an amazing honor, to be asked to again captain the U.S. Solheim Cup Team,” Lewis said in a news release. “Receiving the first call was one of the highest points of my career, and I am truly grateful to add this second opportunity. I’ve said it many times — representing the United States and wearing our colors are experiences that stand out in any player’s career. To have the chance to lead our country’s best players twice, and especially in 2024 outside our nation’s capital, is a true privilege.”

Lewis represented Team USA in 2011, 2013, 2015 and 2017. She was an unofficial assistant captain during the 2019 event and served in an official capacity in 2021.

“Stacy has already proven to be an outstanding captain as she prepares for the 2023 Solheim Cup,” LPGA commissioner Mollie Marcoux Samaan said. “She has embraced the role in every way and has implemented several innovative ways to help her team reach peak performance, including the use of advanced data and analytics. Her Solheim Cup experience, proven leadership and passion coupled with the many benefits of consistency in 2023 and 2024 led the selection committee to enthusiastically invite Stacy to captain the team in 2024.”

The 12 American golfers Lewis will lead this year will attempt to recapture the Solheim Cup from Team Europe, which won the 2021 event 15-13 at Inverness Club in Toledo, Ohio.

Lewis, 37, is the youngest U.S. team captain in Solheim Cup history. Golfweek reported that she has implemented a stats system, similar to what Ryder Cup and Presidents Cup captains use, that will help her determine the potential best pairings in Spain.

Lewis has 13 LPGA Tour wins. She was the LPGA Player of the Year in 2012 and 2014.
