St. Louis City SC acquire midfielder Njabulo Blom

St. Louis City SC announced Friday the acquisition of South African national team midfielder Njabulo Blom.

The 2023 MLS expansion club signed Blom to a two-year deal with options in 2025 and 2026.

St. Louis paid an undisclosed transfer fee to South Africa’s Kaizer Chiefs F.C. to acquire Blom, 23.

“We are excited to bring a young South African national team player like Blom to our squad and St. Louis,” St. Louis sporting director Lutz Pfannenstiel said in a news release. “His ball-winning, super aggressive, warrior qualities as a central defensive midfielder match what we are looking for in our philosophy. Blom’s addition to our team is exactly the missing puzzle piece we needed.”

Blom played in 94 matches with Kaizer Chiefs from 2019-22, including 13 appearances this season.

He earned his first cap with the for the South African national team in a World Cup qualifier against Ghana on Sept. 6, 2021.

St. Louis coach Bradley Carnell, also from South Africa, played for Kaizer Chiefs from 1997-98.
