St. John’s coach Rick Pitino will miss his team’s Tuesday road game against Seton Hall due to a bout with COVID-19.

Pitino reportedly tested positive earlier Tuesday as his symptoms worsened.

Associate head coach Steve Masiello will serve as Red Storm coach against the Pirates.

Pitino is in his first at St. John’s after spending the past three seasons at Iona. He also contracted COVID-19 in January 2021 during his tenure at Iona.

Pitino, 71, has won national championships at Kentucky (1996) and Louisville (2013) during his Hall of Fame career. The title at Louisville was later vacated by the NCAA due to recruiting violations.

St. John’s is 12-5 and 4-2 in Big East play entering Tuesday’s game.
