The San Antonio Spurs used Saturday as a way to quietly upgrade their team. According to Adrian Wojnorowski of ESPN, San Antonio has traded Davis Bertans to the Washington Wizards in order to clear cap room to sign DeMarre Carroll.

Shams Charania of The Athletic is also reporting that the Spurs have signed veteran forward Marcus Morris to a two-year, $20 million contract.

These two moves give San Antonio upgrades at the wing to go with star guard DeMar DeRozan.

Carroll, 32, averaged 11.1 points and 5.2 rebounds for the Nets last season. He’s considered a top-end wing defender. Meanwhile, Morris averaged 13.9 points and 6.1 rebounds while shooting 38 percent from distance for the Celtics.

In order to make this work, San Antonio had to trade a player in Bertans who averaged 8.0 points and shot 40 percent from distance last season.
