Last week, MLB commissioner Rob Manfred announced he was “100%” confident that there would be a season in 2020.
On Monday, he backtracked in a significant way.
The MLBPA has broken off negotiations with MLB after a series of never-going-to-work proposals.
Then, Manfred admitted Monday that a season may not happen now, after all.
“I’m not confident,” Manfred said, per ESPN. “I think there’s real risk: and as long as there’s no dialogue, that real risk is gonna continue.”
One could get whiplash from that kind of sudden turnaround.
Not surprisingly, as news spread on social media that the return of MLB may not happen in 2020, Manfred became an easy target. Here’s how the sports world reacted to this latest news.
