Stunning news broke Friday afternoon as Manchester City was banned from the Champions League for two years by the UEFA and fined 30 million Euros.

The club was disciplined so harshly due to “serious breaches” of UEFA financial rules by “overstating its sponsorship revenue in its accounts and in the break-even information submitted to the UEFA between 2012 and 2016,” the league announced in a statement shared by Rob Harris of the Associated press.

Manchester City issued the following statement in response to the disciplinary action:

“Manchester City is disappointed but not surprised by today’s announcement by the UEFA Adjudicatory Chamber. The Club has always anticipated the ultimate need to seek out an independent body and process to impartially consider the comprehensive body of irrefutable evidence in support of its position.”

This is one of the most stunning disciplinary actions taken in recent professional sports history, and it garnered plenty of reactions on social media. Here’s how the sports world reacted to Manchester City being suspended two years and fined 30 million Euros.
