Back in 2017, Spaniard Jon Rahm won his first ever golf tournament at Torrey Pines in Southern California. For Rahm, that victory came at the Farmer Insurance Open.
Fast forward a few years, and the 26-year-old Rahm put himself in position to win again at Torrey Pines. This time, it came in the 2021 U.S. Open as the boisterous golfer was attempting to earn his first ever major victory.
Mere weeks after having to withdraw from the Memorial Tournament due to COVID-19 while sitting atop the leaderboard after Round 3, Rahm found himself battling it out with Louis Oosthuizen for the major title. He find himself down one through 16 before putting up a birdie on 17. Then, with the two tied a minus-five, Jon Rahm electrified fans in San Diego by birdying on 18.
Talk about a clutch shot at the most opportunistic time. Perhaps, the most drama-filled moment of Rahmโs career despite his status as the No. 3 golfer and the favorite heading into the U.S. Open. Just amazing.
Rahm would have to watch from the clubhouse as Oosthuizen finished his final few holes. In the end, he came out on top in breathtaking fashion. This represents the sixth career win for the Spaniard and a defining moment in his young career. The new father also enjoyed a moment with his baby son on Fatherโs Day. Just talk about special.
