Sporting Kansas City defender Kortne Ford underwent surgery Friday to repair a ruptured Achilles tendon and is expected to miss the 2023 season.

Ford, 27, was injured during Wednesday’s preseason game against Real Salt Lake.

Ford joined Sporting KC prior to last season and was scoreless in 14 MLS matches (nine starts). His season was interrupted by a 10-game suspension for violating the MLS Substance Abuse and Behavioral Health policy.

Ford also played for the Colorado Rapids from 2017-18. He didn’t play in any games in 2019 or 2020 due to multiple knee surgeries.

In 2021, Ford played for San Antonio FC of the United Soccer League.

Ford has one goal in 49 MLS matches (42 starts).
