High Limit Racing picked up another World of Outlaws defection on Saturday with the announcement that CJB Racing and driver Spencer Bayston would contend for the full championship next season.
Bayston joins previously announced full-timers Rico Abreu, Jacob Allen, Brenham Crouch, Corey Day, Cory Eliason, Kasey Kahne, Justin Peck, Brad Sweet and Zeb Wise. Bayston is the 2022 World of Outlaws rookie of the year and 2017 USAC National Midget Series champion.
Thus far, World of Outlaws has earned commitments from David Gravel, Logan Schuchart, Sheldon Haudenschild, Donny Schatz, Brock Zearfoss and Bill Rose.
Amongst the higher profile commitments still on the table include Carson Macedo of Jason Johnson Racing, Tyler Courtney with Clauson Marshall Racing and perennial true outlaws like Anthony Macri or Brent Marks. James McFadden and Buddy Kofoid raced for Roth Motorsports last season and are still uncommitted as well.
This will be the third season in which Bayston will race with crew chief Chad Clemens and crew chief Barry Jackson. Bayston has won five times each in both Outlaws and All-Star Circuit of Champions competition.
For Bayston and CJB, this marks an opportunity to grow together with a more forgiving schedule, but also the chance to continue racing in all the marquee World of Outlaws shows too all while continuing to race against top flight competition for a championship.
Jackson indicated as much, speaking to Jeremy Elliott’s Sprint Car Unlimited, in which he said the breaks in the High Limit schedule offer better work-life balance as factors. He said the team will open the season with the Outlaws at Volusia but then get to take another six-week breather.
He also said the team struggled with the new tire compound introduced in March but felt better prepared for the season to come.
