Earlier this month, Manchester United announced they have parted ways with manager Ruben Amorim after just 14 months on the job at Old Trafford.

The firing of the Portuguese manager followed public outbursts by Amorim in press conferences, where he repeatedly told reporters that if the club weren’t satisfied with his style of play, they would need to “change the man”.

Moreover, the United hierarchy had reportedly grown weary of the team’s performances under Amorim as well as their position on the Premier League table.

Following his sack, Man United released an official statement explaining their decision to relieve Ruben Amorim of his duties was in the best interests of the club.

“With Manchester United sitting sixth in the Premier League, the club’s leadership has reluctantly made the decision that it is the right time to make a change. This will give the team the best opportunity of the highest possible Premier League finish,” the statement read in part.

However, some soccer insiders seem to believe that the club is the bigger issue and not the coaches or players. Indeed, this was the view of a Chelsea legend who has now dropped his thoughts on the situation.

Ruud Gullit believes Man United is a “graveyard for players and coaches”

In an interview this month, former Dutch player and Chelsea legend Ruud Gullit stated that Old Trafford is now a burial place for talented managers and players.

Speaking to FootItalia, he said:

“The players at Manchester United do not have the confidence. They struggle with confidence and pressure from the outside world. It’s not an easy environment. It is a graveyard for players and coaches.”

Gullit also believes the United top brass need to look onwards to find the real problem and solve it instead of shifting the blame on coaches or players.

“Many players leave United and suddenly play well again. Manchester United need to look at themselves and what’s really going on there,” he said.

“What is the vibe? The vibe there is not good. But if you don’t have the players, what do you do?” he added.

Ruben Amorim becomes the sixth permanent manager that has been dismissed by United, after the retirement of the legendary Sir Alex Ferguson in May 2013.
