Chelsea are still pushing for a deal to acquire the services of highly-rated Rennes defender Jeremy Jacquet this January, with the Blues eager to bring in defensive reinforcements.

New Blues head coach Liam Rosenior will likely be a key part of negotiations for the France U21 international, given his experience and knowledge in the French top-flight league.

While reports from France have stated that Jacquet has already agreed personal terms with Chelsea and is very keen on a move to the Premier League, a transfer still rests on whether the Blues are willing to meet the Ligue 1 club’s fee demands.

Now, the Rennes head coach has delivered a huge update on the talented defender amid the interest from Chelsea.

Rennes coach Habib Beye breaks silence on Jeremy Jacquet transfer situation

Despite reports stating that Jeremy Jacquet has allegedly told the Rennes hierarchy that he would like a move to Chelsea, the club’s head coach has struck a different tone regarding the player’s conduct.

Speaking during his pregame press conference on Thursday, head coach Habib Beye said Jacquet remains committed to Rennes’ project despite links to England.

“He’s laser-focused on what he’s experiencing right now,” Beye told reporters as he hailed the centre-back’s composure.

However, Habib Beye then stated that he’s not in charge of transfer business at the club and doesn’t have the final say as a result.

“There are still a few days left in the transfer window; anything can happen. We need things to be as calm as possible,” he added.

Rennes are currently asking for a massive £60M ($80.4M) fee for the Frenchman, which might become a stumbling block to any deal for the centre-back. However, it will be interesting to see how further developments will play out between both clubs.
