Just days after Ruben Amorim was dismissed as Manchester United head coach, fresh revelations are beginning to surface behind the scenes.

The latest report claims that the United hierarchy had already lined up a leading Premier League manager as a potential successor well before pulling the plug on the Portuguese coach’s reign at Old Trafford.

Amorim, 40, is said to have fallen out with the top brass at United over the past couple of months. And with the current league campaign heading into the second half of the season, contact was swiftly established with another top manager.

Oliver Glasner approached by Man United

Per club insider Fraser Fletcher, Crystal Palace manager Oliver Glasner was discreetly approached by United about the possibility of taking over at Old Trafford.

He revealed this via TEAMTalk:

“Glasner had information passed to him that he was on United’s shortlist a few weeks ago, before the sacking of Ruben Amorim.”

Fletcher further stated that the early contact appears to have swayed Glasner’s thinking about his future at Selhurst Park.

“This knowledge has influenced his decisions regarding his future, including turning down opportunities to extend his current contract at Palace, which is set to expire at the end of the season.”

Despite the latest claims linking him to the top job at Old Trafford, Oliver Glasner was coy about becoming Amorim’s replacement.

Speaking to the media on Tuesday, Glasner refused to directly address speculation that he is the bookmakers’ favourite to succeed Amorim.

Meanwhile, Darren Fletcher has stepped in as interim head coach and is tasked with guiding United against Burnley and possibly Brighton in the FA Cup.

A caretaker appointment is expected to follow quickly, with Ole Gunnar Solskjaer strongly tipped to steady the ship until the summer before a permanent role is announced.
