Chelsea winger Mykhailo Mudryk’s future was thrown into uncertainty after his suspension by the FA last year over doping allegations. Now, head coach Liam Rosenior has outlined his plans for the suspended forward while debunking earlier claims that Mudryk was back in training.

The Ukrainian winger last played for Chelsea in November 2024 during a UEFA Conference League win against Germany side Heidenheim in which he netted a goal.

But he has since been out of the picture after being charged in June 2025 with a violation of the English FA’s anti-doping rules following a failed drug test.

The positive test was for the prohibited substance meldonium, and under FA rules, it was said at the time that Mudryk could face a suspension from football and all football-related activities of up to four years.

However, there was inaccurate reports this week that suggested Mykhailo Mudryk was back in first-team training, but he is understood to have not been on the premises of Chelsea’s Cobham training facility recently.

What Liam Rosenior have said about plans for Mykhailo Mudryk

On Friday, new Chelsea head coach Liam Rosenior was asked during his pregame presser if he has reached out to 25-year-old Mudryk yet.

“Not yet,” he replied. “It’s definitely something that I want to do, but there are many things I want to do and haven’t been able to do.”

“But no, he’s a magnificent player. He’s had a really difficult time and when the moment is right for me and him and the club, I’ll definitely have a conversation with him,” Rosenior added.

However, the Englishman was further quizzed on what the “right time” for such a conversation with Mykhailo Mudryk might be. Rosenior then cleared the air on that timeframe, saying:

“The time is right when I speak with the board and the sporting directors and when it’s right that he’s in a place where I can have an impact, in a positive way, on his career.”

Since his appointment as head coach, Rosenior has proved that he’s willing to judge players based on the present, as evidenced with his stance towards exiled defender Axel Disasi.

Now, Mykhailo Mudryk who’s in a similar position, will likely be given an opportunity to prove himself when “the time is right”.
