Philadelphia 76ers star Ben Simmons is about to be $20,000 lighter in the checkbook. The NBA announced on Friday that it has fined the All-Star for the cheap shot he took on Raptors guard Kyle Lowry Thursday night.

During Game 3 of the Eastern Conference Semifinals Thursday night, Simmons elbowed Lowry in the groin. Toronto’s best guard was seen on the hardwood in pain for minutes after the blow.

Despite that, no foul was called on Simmons.

After reviewing the play, the NBA decided that a fine of $20,000 was worth it.

There was some thought, however mild it might have been, that Simmons would be suspended for Game 4. That’s not the case.
