Sheldon Creed, Richard Childress Racing parting ways after season

NASCAR: Xfinity Series Beef It's What's For Dinner 300

Sheldon Creed will not return to the No. 2 Richard Childress Racing Xfinity Series team in 2024.

The team made its statement first on Wednesday followed an hour later by the driver who said he had made the decision to leave.

“We will make an announcement regarding the driver of the No. 2 Whelen Chevrolet in the near future,” said the Childress team statement.

This is the second season Creed, the 2020 Truck Series champion then with GMS Racing, has raced for Childress. He is currently seventh in the Xfinity Series playoff standings at the start of the Round of 8 that begins on Saturday at Las Vegas Motor Speedway.

He is still seeking his first win at this level but has nine top-fives and 27 top-10s in 62 starts with the Childress Xfinity Series team.

“We have decided to leave Richard Childress Racing at the end of the 2023 Xfinity season,” Creed said in a statement. “RCR and Whelen gave me my first opportunity out of the Truck Series, and although we haven’t gone out and won all the races we would’ve wished to, I’ll be forever grateful for the friendships, hard work, learning and growing we have done.

“Additionally, I can’t thank Whelen enough for their neverending support for me and our team. Extremely excited to share my 2024 plans with you all soon.”
